Which ingredients help the product absorb quickly?
Not all active ingredients behave the same way on the skin—some have a particularly fine molecular structure and therefore penetrate more quickly without leaving any residue. Serums containing hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, retinol, peptides, and niacinamide are considered top performers when it comes to rapid absorption and visible results.
Serums with Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is considered a moisture magnet—and the lower its molecular weight, the deeper it can penetrate the skin. Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (approx. 20–50 kDa) provides intense hydration in the deeper layers of the skin, while high-molecular-weight variants smooth and protect the skin’s surface. The result: plumper, smoother skin without a greasy film—ideal for daily use.
Serums with Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, but not all forms are equally effective. Many inexpensive products contain high-molecular-weight derivatives that barely penetrate the skin. High-quality serums rely on stabilized, low-molecular-weight forms such as ethyl ascorbic acid (ETVC, approx. 202 Da) —currently the smallest and most effective form of vitamin C. It absorbs particularly quickly, stimulates collagen production, and supports deep cellular regeneration. This variant is found primarily in premium formulations (such as the Vit C + Spilanthol Serum by DOC BERGER EFFECT), as it is very costly to produce.
Serums with Retinol
Retinol (vitamin A) is a lipophilic active ingredient with a very small molecular weight (approx. 286 Da). It absorbs well, stimulates cell renewal , refines pores, and smooths fine lines. Because of its effect on collagen production, retinol is considered one of the most effective anti-aging ingredients available. Important: Always apply in the evening and allow your skin to gradually get used to the active ingredient.
Peptide serums (e.g., serums containing spilanthol)
Peptides are short chains of amino acids with a medium molecular weight (approx. 400–800 Da) that stimulate skin regeneration and support cell renewal. Spilanthol, a natural active ingredient derived from paracress, is one of the fastest-acting anti-aging ingredients available. With its exceptionally small molecular weight (~221 Da), it absorbs in a matter of seconds, smooths fine lines, and leaves the skin’s surface visibly relaxed and smooth.
Spilanthol is one of the so-called “Botox-in-a-bottle” active ingredients —along with muscle-relaxing peptides such as Argireline ( Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) and Syn-Ake (Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate). However , thanks to its plant-based origin and its particularly light feel on the skin, spilanthol (Biobotox) is ideal for fast-absorbing serums that work effectively without leaving any residue.
