Irritability

Your skin reacts quickly to external influences such as changes in temperature, wind or certain ingredients and often shows signs of redness, dryness and itching.

Protective barrier

A weakened skin barrier can cause the skin to lose moisture more quickly and react more sensitively to external triggers.

Complexion

The complexion is often uneven and can be characterized by redness or dry patches. Sensitive skin can also be prone to flaking.

Unique characteristic

Gentle, well-tolerated formulas and a consistent skincare routine that minimizes irritation are especially important.

Why Does Sensitive Skin React So Quickly?

Sensitive skin is a skin type that reacts strongly to external factors and certain ingredients in skincare products. People with sensitive skin often experience redness, dryness, itching, burning, or a feeling of tightness. Such reactions can be triggered by various factors, including extreme temperatures, wind, UV radiation, environmental pollution, or contact with certain chemical substances.

Sensitive skin often has a weakened skin barrier, making it less resilient to external stressors. As a result, it becomes more easily irritated and more prone to reactions and sensitivities. Caring for sensitive skin requires special attention to avoid irritants and to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier.

At DOC BERGER EFFECT, our products follow the principles of clean beauty and are formulated without potentially irritating or harmful additives.

What is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin reacts particularly quickly to external and internal influences. Even temperature changes, wind, UV exposure, stress, or certain cosmetic ingredients can trigger redness, burning, itching, or tightness.

Typical characteristics of sensitive skin include:

  • skin that reddens easily,
  • burning or tingling,
  • tightness,
  • itching,
  • dry or rough patches,
  • a stronger reaction to new skincare products,
  • and sensitivity to cold, heat, or wind.

The natural skin barrier is often impaired in sensitive skin. As a result, the skin retains moisture less effectively and reacts more strongly to external stimuli.

Good skincare for sensitive skin—also referred to as sensitive-skin care—should therefore cleanse as gently as possible, provide sufficient hydration, support the skin barrier, and avoid unnecessary irritation.

Particularly important are a gentle cleansing foam for sensitive skin, a soothing facial toner for sensitive skin, well-tolerated hydrating serums and a suitable day and night cream.

You can find all suitable products in our skincare for sensitive skin collection.

Which products are good for sensitive skin?

The ideal skincare for sensitive skin or skincare for reactive skin should, above all, be gentle, hydrating, and kind to the skin barrier.

Cleansing foam for sensitive skin

Start your routine with Foam Sensitive.

This cleansing foam for reactive and sensitive skin was developed specifically for dry and sensitive skin. It thoroughly removes dirt and residue without unnecessarily stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Sensitive skin in particular should not be treated with harsh cleansers, as a weakened skin barrier can further promote irritation.

Facial toner for sensitive skin

Follow with Tonic Sensitive.

This facial toner for sensitive and reactive skin contains panthenol and hydrating ingredients, among others. It removes any remaining residue, supports the skin's natural pH, and prepares the skin for the serums that follow.

Serums for sensitive and reactive skin

Depending on your skin's needs, you can then use different active ingredient serums:

The general rule for sensitive skin is: Avoid using too many active ingredients at once, and build your routine according to your individual tolerance.

Day and night cream for sensitive skin

In the morning, Four Seasons Day Cream with SPF 50+ completes your skincare for reactive skin.

In the evening, follow with Time Machine as your night cream.

Which cream is suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?

A good cream for sensitive skin or cream for reactive skin should provide hydration, support the skin barrier, and place as little additional stress on the skin as possible.

Day cream for sensitive and reactive skin

In the morning, Four Seasons Day Cream with SPF 50+ is a suitable choice.

Daily sun protection is especially important for sensitive skin, as UV radiation can place additional stress on the skin and contribute to redness and premature skin aging.

Four Seasons Day Cream combines day care for reactive skin with high UV protection and also contains nourishing and hydrating ingredients.

Night cream for sensitive skin

In the evening, Time Machine is a suitable night cream for sensitive skin.

Its relatively lightweight anti-aging texture contains skin-identical lipids and moisturizing ingredients, supporting the skin during overnight regeneration.

Together, Four Seasons Day Cream in the morning and Time Machine in the evening form the cream foundation of a skincare routine for sensitive or reactive skin.

If sensitive skin is also very dry, Ultra Rich Night Cream is recommended instead of Time Machine.

Which serum is suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?

For a serum for sensitive skin, tolerance should come first. Ingredients that provide hydration and support the skin without unnecessarily overwhelming already reactive skin are particularly useful.

Hyper Hyaluron Serum – for intensive hydration

Hyper Hyaluron Serum is particularly suitable as a hyaluronic acid serum for sensitive and reactive skin.

Different forms of hyaluronic acid help bind moisture in the skin. This is especially relevant because sensitive skin often also experiences dehydration and tightness.

Collagen Serum – for hydration and firmness

Collagen Serum is also included in the current collection for sensitive skin.

It is particularly suitable when elasticity, firmness, and a plumper skin feel are concerns alongside dehydration.

Platinum Elixir – for demanding reactive skin

Platinum Elixir is a high-end hydrating serum with platinum and peptide/exosome technology, and is also part of the current skincare for sensitive skin collection.

It is particularly suitable for demanding reactive skin when you want to combine intensive hydration with anti-aging and skin longevity care.

For highly reactive skin, new serums should generally be introduced individually and gradually, so that your individual tolerance can be clearly assessed.

What helps sensitive and reactive skin?

What helps sensitive or reactive skin most is a consistent skincare routine with as few irritants as possible that respects the skin barrier and provides sufficient hydration.

Especially important are:

  • gentle cleansing,
  • sufficient hydration,
  • avoiding unnecessary product changes whenever possible,
  • care that is kind to the skin barrier,
  • daily sun protection,
  • lukewarm rather than very hot water,
  • restrained use of acids and exfoliants,
  • careful introduction of highly active ingredients.

Foam Sensitive and Tonic Sensitive therefore form the foundation of skincare for sensitive skin.

For dehydration, follow with Hyper Hyaluron Serum.

In the morning, Four Seasons Day Cream with SPF 50+ protects against UV radiation, while in the evening, Time Machine completes the skincare routine.

Why is my skin suddenly so sensitive?

If your skin suddenly reacts more sensitively than usual, there may be various reasons.

Common triggers include:

  • overly frequent exfoliation,
  • several highly active ingredients used at once,
  • overly harsh cleansing,
  • retinol or acids without sufficient time to adjust,
  • cold and dry indoor heating,
  • intense UV radiation,
  • hormonal changes,
  • stress,
  • an impaired skin barrier.

Temporary sensitivity particularly often occurs when too many active ingredients are combined.

During this phase, simplify your skincare for reactive skin. A simple routine of Foam Sensitive, Tonic Sensitive, a hydrating serum, and a suitable cream may be more helpful than additional active ingredient layering.

If severe, persistent redness, inflammation, itching, or pain occurs, seek a dermatological assessment to determine whether rosacea, eczema, or a contact reaction, for example, is involved.

Which active ingredients are good for sensitive and reactive skin?

The best active ingredients for sensitive and reactive skin should primarily provide hydration, soothe irritation, and support the natural skin barrier.

Panthenol

Panthenol is one of the most important ingredients in skincare for sensitive skin.

It supports regeneration, binds moisture, and soothes the skin. Panthenol is found in Tonic Sensitive, among other products.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin, making it particularly suitable for sensitive skin with tightness or fine lines caused by dryness.

Hyper Hyaluron Serum combines different forms of hyaluronic acid.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is particularly relevant for reactive skin thanks to its hydrating and soothing properties, and is used in the Sensitive cleansing products, among others.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide can support the skin barrier and is also relevant for redness and an uneven complexion.

Skin-identical lipids

Lipids also play an important role in sensitive skin, as a stable skin barrier is essential for protecting against external irritants and retaining moisture.

Overall, however, the number of active ingredients is not what matters for reactive skin. A simple, well-tolerated routine is often more helpful than intensive active ingredient layering.

What should you avoid with sensitive or reactive skin?

For sensitive and reactive skin, overtreatment should be avoided above all.

The following can be problematic, for example:

  • harsh cleansing products,
  • water that is too hot,
  • frequently changing skincare products,
  • too many active ingredients at once,
  • excessive exfoliation,
  • increasing retinol too quickly,
  • using several strongly exfoliating products at the same time,
  • vigorous rubbing of the skin.

Even for ingredients that are generally effective, not every ingredient is suitable for reactive skin at every stage.

Retinol and fruit acids in particular should be introduced slowly and according to your individual tolerance.

If your skin is currently burning, very red, or irritated, first simplify your routine to gentle skincare for sensitive skin.

It is also important not to equate sensitive skin with dry skin: reactive skin can be dry, but does not have to be. Normal, oily, and combination skin can also react sensitively.
